ELECTRICAL / ROBOTICS ENGINEER
Posted October 8, 2008
We intend to hire one or more candidates for this position.
COMPANY DESCRIPTION: Centeye is a small microelectronics firm in Washington DC that specializes in vision chip or visual microsensor technology for a variety of machine vision applications. Our technology allows the implementation of complete machine vision systems sufficiently light for usage on small robotic platforms, including flying robots the size of your hand. Using our own custom-designed "vision chips" as an imager front end, these sensors weigh between 0.2 grams and 15 grams apiece (including optics, imager, and processor) and yet can process imagery at several hundred or more frames per second. We are currently developing these sensors primarily for robotic applications, particularly mini/micro-class UAVs (uninhabited air vehicles), ground robots, toys, security, and other applications. Current projects include: Developing a sensor suite to provide micro air vehicles (MAVs) / small RC helicopters with autonomous obstacle avoidance and hover-in-place capability, testing the sensor suite on small RC helicopters, developing a light-weight high-performance omnidirectional imaging system, developing multiresolution machine vision systems for robotics, and developing sensors and development kits for commercial markets.
JOB DESCRIPTION: If hired, you will be involved with several projects relating to vision systems for robotic applications. Sample projects include (but are not limited to) developing and programming sensor boards (board design, firmware development, etc.), testing sensors in both laboratory environments and on ground and airborne platforms, developing new image processing and control algorithms, and mixed-signal VLSI. View our website www.centeye.com to get a sense of the type of work we do. As Centeye is a small company, you would participate in almost all aspects of the project, either directly or in close collaboration with other employees.
QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate has a background in electrical engineering or computer science, preferably at the Masters or Ph.D. level, or at the B.S. level with several years of relevant experience. We will also consider exceptional recently graduated B.S. candidates. Essential skill sets include embedded programming and hardware design; secondary skill sets include robotics, signal/image processing, control theory, neuromorphic engineering, and mixed-signal VLSI design. You should enjoy “hacking” hardware/software to make new systems. Candidates from related disciplines (e.g. mathematics, physics, and other engineering disciplines) are encouraged to apply provided they have a background in electronics. You must have the temperament for working on a diverse set of problems in a small company setting- you WILL have plenty of opportunity to make a significant impact on our product and technology development. Perhaps most important, you must love engineering and solving difficult technical problems of this nature.
TO APPLY: Please send your resume and any other information to jobs@centeye.com. It is helpful to us if you describe past technical projects you have completed, whether professionally, or, if you are a recent graduate, as part of your education, activities, or hobbies. Feel free to send cover letters or any other relevant information, but please include or attach them in the same email message. Please include your GPA somewhere, especially if you are a recent graduate. Make sure you communicate that you meet the basic citizenship requirements (see next).
IMPORTANT: Due to the nature of our contracts, we can only hire U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents. If you are one of these two, then you “meet the basic citizenship requirements”. You MUST include somewhere in your application a statement that you “meet the basic citizenship requirements”, or else your application will not be considered. You need not specify whether you are a Citizen or a Permanent Resident since this would not be a factor in your selection. We apologize that at the current time we are unable to hire employees with F1 or H1 visas.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY: Centeye is an equal opportunity employer. It is our policy to not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, creed, religion, color, national origin, veteran status, or sexual orientation.
